濃霧院博士: それでは始めましょう。色敷君はSCP-2199-JPとはどういう性質であると言えると考えていますか？

色敷研究員: そうですね、漠然とはしていますが、私はSCP-2199-JPについて言及する際に恥ずかしさ、あるいは少し恐怖感がありますね。

濃霧院博士: その恐怖とは、命を脅かされるようなものとは異なりますよね？

色敷研究員: はい。私は私が無知であることを晒してしまうんじゃないかと不安になります。

濃霧院博士: ありがとうございます。では私はもう少し具体例を挙げる形で婉曲してみようと思います。例えば色敷君、"ミーム"と言われてなんのことかわかりますか？

色敷研究員: はい、ミームとは1976年に動物行動学者、進化生物学者のリチャード・ドーキンスが”The Selfish Gene”において提唱した「知識・情報・規範が伝染していき、人の行動に影響を及ぼす」という概念のことです。現在の財団でも広く用いられている用語ですね。

濃霧院博士: その通りです。広く既知な事柄ですね。では"SRA"とは何のことでしょうか。

色敷研究員: SRAはスクラントン・リアリティ・アンカーの略称です。現実改変に対する抑止機構として多くのオブジェクトの収容に活用されています。

濃霧院博士: 的確な答えです。わざわざみんな知っていて当たり前のことを説明させられる色敷君は、その説明を面倒だと感じたはずです。私がミームとSRAのことを知っていれば、色敷君に説明させる手間を取らせずに円滑なコミュニケーションが行えたはずですね。今回の場合私は野暮や無粋と言われるかもしれません。

色敷研究員: 漠然とさせておくべきだ、言わぬが花だというわけですか、その通りですね。しかし私も生き物ですから、逆に自分だけが知っているような限定された知識を、広く既知な常識と思い込んで濃霧院博士にあえて伝えない、というミスを犯すかもしれません。

濃霧院博士: 確かにそれは誰にでも起こしうるミスですね。例えば自分自身の事柄などは、自分は深く知っているが相手は聞いてないので知らないということが良くあります。

色敷研究員: 「あれ、話してなかったっけ？」という奴ですね。

濃霧院博士: 全くその通りです。知らない人と友達になろうとする時も、こうした[省略]の共有はとても大事です。よく言われる"内輪ネタ"という言葉も、[省略]を共有している人々にしか面白味がわからないという理由で揶揄に使われたりしていますが、逆に言えば[省略]を共有している人々には連帯感が生まれますからね。

色敷研究員: そうですね。[省略]を持っていない人には意味不明なネタに見えるかもしれませんが。

濃霧院博士: それを防ぐために[省略]を事柄と一緒に説明しようとするんですが、先ほどのミームやSRAのような広く既知な用語をいちいち説明するのは冗長になってしまいますからね。ヒューマノイド型オブジェクトについて書く際にいちいちヒトの組成や骨格などを説明していてはデータベース保安員から省略しろと警告が来るでしょう。

色敷研究員: コミュニケーションの受け手に甘えて、広く既知な事柄は詳述しないほうが円滑なコミュニケーションができる。ただし受け手が必ず[省略]を持っているとは限らない。悩ましい問題ですね。

不安なのは分かるが1･2年の研修期間を終えれば、君達もここでの記憶を失くしてこの暗闇から解放される。
